A: Plenty of MBAs return to their industries. Instead of arguing for an industry switch, you will talk about all the skills, experiences and knowledge you would need to have influence upon returning to the fintech space. Yes, you can make an impact without an MBA, but the argument is that you can make a GREATER impact with an MBA. This is not an issue at all and, in fact, is quite common.

2- For my short term goals, should I mention that I would recruit specifically for Fintech companies in the U.S since they are directly linked to my long term goal? However, I'm not sure if a lot of Fintechs sponsor internationals.

A: We get this question often. Do not worry about matters like visa sponsorship. The AdComs are not taking into consideration the logistics of your career search. They want to see if you have a bona fide plan to achieve your career goals, both short- and long-term.

The bigger question/issue you must address is why you would become a PM/PMM short-term to become a CXO focused on inclusion. Those two functions don't seem linked.

Hi Admissiondo team, thank you for your response. Regarding my second point, my long term goal is to become the Chief Product Officer/Head of Product for a fintech company in my home country. This will enable me to build products that simplify digital banking for customers, leading to increased financial inclusion. Working as a PM for a Fintech/general tech company in the U.S in the short term will help me build the skills required to achieve my long term goal.

Hi mbatech15,

Getting detailed and gritty is the key. The AdComms are not just looking for logical career flow at a high level (which is very important) but also a certain degree of effort in choosing an MBA and specifically their MBA program. This is where you have to get specific about past projects and gaps you noticed in your skills (ones that will be critical in a more senior leadership role post MBA). If you can map to specific elements of each program that will hit those gaps, you'll demonstrate that 1) the MBA makes sense as a bridge to your next role and 2) the specific program is the right fit for you.

Interestingly, I just had a client who was on the waitlist at Booth and was given guidance that the Why MBA? Why Booth? answers were holding them back.
