The average years of work experience at matriculation is 4-5 so people applying have 3-4. You’re not too far under that so you could try this year, just be very clear on WHY NOW is the best time for you. A high GMAT score is always good!

Hi Jennifer, hope you are doing well. Hi Jennifer, hope you are doing well.
I’m curious to know how top US schools view candidates with ~10 of work experience, specifically for FT programs.

That much work experience makes it tough for FT programs. Some schools even automatically put you into an EMBA or PT bucket -- MIT Sloan does for example. Some people will get in to a FT program with that much experience but it will make what is already a stretch school even more of a stretch. The average is 4-5 years at matriculation, so often a PT program will be a better fit.

PT is part-time. Some one-year full-time programs that target older applicants are Stanford MsX and Sloan Fellows. They are very competitive but might be more appealing to you. Kellogg also has a one-year program you could look into, as does Cornell.

I am from India and doing a part time and emba doesn’t have same value a full time MBA and also what about schools like Oxford, judge, IMD, HEC and I Bear USC Marshall because the fellow program may be too competitive and tough to get through

I think that profile looks quite competitive for that school list if you can write compelling essays that really answer Why MBA Why Now and Why at each school. You need to tell your unique story through your essays. I like that school list because it doesn’t just have Top 10 schools on it.

I understand that sometimes the PT programs aren’t perceived the same way in all countries. It’s still an MBA from a top program though, but if that’s not for you then I think that list would be good to consider.

Hi Jennifer!

What are the other factors/achievements that the adcoms consider to provide an admit to an applicant to a FT MBA program who has scored less in his/her undergraduate program?

Acoms evaluate applicants across five areas: Academic readiness (test/GPA), Work experience, Community involvement and leadership, Recommendations, and Essays. Nobody comes in extremely strong in all five -- it’s your job to strengthen your strengths and mitigate any weaknesses as much as you can. If you have a lower GPA, for example, hopefully you can have a higher GMAT or GRE to help mitigate that. Also, pick the right recommenders and craft a compelling narrative in your essays. It’s a holistic process.

Are you referring to Foster’s GEMBA (global executive MBA) program? That’s going to target older candidates.
