Hello everyone,

I would greatly appreciate your guidance and honest assessment of my profile.

General background: I am a 28-year-old male, an Indian national.

Education:
Bachelors of accounting and finance 3 Year degree, from Mumbai University with a GPA of 4.58/7

GRE: 338 (170q,168v)

Work experience:
I currently possess 8 years of work experience
1 year at a small tax advisory firm
2 years at textile manufacturing company as deputy sales and business development
5 years as Entrepreneur, a small solutions based IT Consultancy company

Extra-curricular activities:
Volunteering to teach English to kids

Post-MBA Goals:
My post-MBA aspiration is to pursue a career in general consulting at MBB or similar firms. Alternatively, I am also interested in management roles within operations or risk management domains. I am not inclined towards a finance-focused career and instead aim to explore different industries.

Thank you for taking the time to review my profile. I would greatly appreciate any feedback or additional insights you may have. I'm planning to apply in R1.

a) I would like to know my chances of being accepted into MBA programs at LBS , Ross, Tuck, Cornell,
Tepper, INSEAD, ISB (basically t15 -t20 programs)

b) Additionally, do I stand a chance of receiving a significant scholarship at lower-ranked US schools?

Lastly What are the best consulting schools from rank 16 to rank 25 (us news rankings) ?

Hi calvinstone,

Having transitioned from IT/ tech consulting to a management consulting firm (big-4) in Dubai post my MBA at HEC Paris, I'm happy to share my views.

a) I would like to know my chances of being accepted into MBA programs at LBS , Ross, Tuck, Cornell, Tepper, INSEAD, ISB (basically t15 -t20 programs)

Your GRE score is strong, and can alleviate concerns regarding your lower GPA. I suggest to also highlight quant-heavy courses (e.g. math) in the application. For these schools, having a strong application including compelling answers to why MBA, why our school, post-MBA goals and the rationale (showcasing further research on your plan A & plan B) can help. Try to do an internship or a live project in management consulting (there are firms that allow you do to that, mostly pro bono): this experience can add significant weight to your profile.

b) Additionally, do I stand a chance of receiving a significant scholarship at lower-ranked US schools?

Yes, your profile has a good chance of receiving scholarships at the lower-ranked US schools. I have worked with multiple candidates, just over the past year, who received upto 100% tuition waiver at such schools (e.g. UNC KF, USC Marshall, etc.).

If you would like to discuss, please get in touch for a profile evaluation session. I will be happy to help!

Regards,
Arvind

Hello,

To answer your questions,

1. Your chances of being accepted at a t15-20 school are decent if you put together a well-packaged application. We can help you do that.

2. Many graduate schools (MBA) offer scholarships. However, they consider the entirety of your profile before making a decision. But getting a scholarship is very possible. The same thing applies to schools ranked in 20-50.

Some schools are target schools and have strong consulting focus such as (Emory, Ivy League schools, Darden). However, you can also secure a consulting roles even if you don't attend the top 15 schools.

At TitanR, we can help you achieve this.

Strengths:
1. Outstanding GRE

Challenges:
1. your age and experience are slightly on the higher side
2. Given your University, your GPA is far from impressive.
3. Some MBA programs will not accept a 3 year UG

1 & 2 can be offset well, with one or more of the following: an explanation in optional answer, your profile of how your career trajectory looks like

calvinstone

Work experience:
I currently possess 8 years of work experience
1 year at a small tax advisory firm
2 years at textile manufacturing company as deputy sales and business development
5 years as Entrepreneur, a small solutions based IT Consultancy company

Extra-curricular activities:
Volunteering to teach English to kids

1. WE can be turned into a great story, though only when accompanied by a well aligned career goal, and good LORs
2. WRT your goal of General Consulting, there are much better goals which are both realistic and ambitious, and yet well aligned with your WE. Can discuss more on that over a 1-2-1 call.
3. WRT your ECs, I think it has to be stronger, but that is probably because you haven't polished the presentation well enough.

Post-MBA Goals:
My post-MBA aspiration is to pursue a career in general consulting at MBB or similar firms. Alternatively, I am also interested in management roles within operations or risk management domains. I am not inclined towards a finance-focused career and instead aim to explore different industries.

Lastly What are the best consulting schools from rank 16 to rank 25 (us news rankings) ?

1. With Ross & Tuck you may be on a thresh-hold. In other words they may be high reach; LBS, Cornell, Tepper, INSEAD etc may be more welcoming, but remember, only with a very strong story, and something that ties your goals well with your WE; plus a polished show of your application documents & stories. Hope that helps
