I've read this article myself... the fact that the income effect doesn't alone explain differences is very interesting. I think there are many reasons one could ponder why these results are the way they are... but at the end of the day it is just kinda unfortunate.

By the way, when the GMAT has those mandatory passages on feminism or on racial equality, who are they appeasing? Does that make people feel better? Seems like it's very patronising.

come on, dont you love reading those wonderful passages on womens involvement in labor unions during the 1900's and their effect on feminist issues?

personally I think trying to appease any group by singling them out on a standardized test is a little strange - but then again Neon (Shaq) in Blue Chips thought the SAT's were culturally biased.

FYI - I found this while trying to find info on what the white male average GMAT score is to see how I stack up - although it would be better to find what scored white males in the top 15 schools average...anyone know?

Oasis - Exactly, I love the passage about women and labor unions.

It's all so contrived.

At my last interview, toward the end the interviewer asked if there was anything else about my candidacy I would like him to know. I should have said, "Yes. I have a black friend. And I think women are very intelligent."

Sad that they dint give the average for Indian Americans/Indians taking GMAT. :)

Probably because if they did their whole argument would fall apart.

My problem with this is what about the companies that think they are hiring some brilliant student from a top business school. In reality, sometimes that person might have a below average test score. I don't think that's right- especially when there were hundreds of similar applicants with higher scores that got dinged.
Then again, the same affirmative action policies are in place at just about every company too.

c00624, you raise a good point. That's probably why some employers ask for GMAT scores. I have no doubt that a lot of candidates get into top schools not based on their credentials but instead based on a quota or because they (or someone in their family) know someone influential.
