Lots of schools have MIS or CIS specialization available. Especially in banking nowadays, they want their analysts to know how to code using VBA, SQL and other lower level languages to build financial models.
But back to the main point....
Lots of programs are trying to lure international applicants to their school to market itself as world class faculty and student body....
For example, they send their recruiters to MBA events in India, China, Singapore etc etc.
It is pretty common to have classmates - with heavy foreign accent. Afterall, i learned Spanish as 2nd language. I can't do conversational spanish but I can read a passage in spanish and translate without much issue. It must be same for those international classmates of your. It isn't too hard to score high on TOEFL or GMAT verbal.
