I'm currently in research, but have done a PMT assignment also. Right now I can claim a couple pending patents from my research position, as well as claim leadership of several issue resolutions and cost saving initiatives from the PMT position. I guess I'm wondering what the adcom would like to see more of.

I think it is a decision really influenced by what you are looking to move in to afterward. If it is a research / engineering / development role, then go for the research. If you are looking to move out to more General Management, it is wise to push away from the world of patents that dominate the engineer background.

I had the same problem.

I can say from my experience that it makes sense for you to think also about the worst case scenario.

Incase you don't make it to the b-schools next year or your priorities change, then would you be willing to spend the next 2 yrs of your life in a field that you don't enjoy?

Cheers,
