Hello,
Is there any difference between folks who work for IT services Cos and those who do Software 'R&D'?
I was going through this:

The author says "For example, rather than highlighting all the software tools you know, emphasize that you have used them in a wide variety of applications: an insurance firm, the trucking industry, education, etc. In other words, you not only understand sophisticated IT tools; you have had to understand the complexities of several industries in order to apply them. "
I am into Software R&D. Wanted to know if I would still be pooled along with IT folks. I have no idea about "insurance firm, the trucking industry, education, etc"

I think IT in that sense refers to professionals like project managers, dba's, and auditors that usually have more business skill than programming skill. so instead of being able to develop custom apps, they become experts with software packages.
