So the event was yesterday. I have never been to a major tour event such as this before. There were 800 people total! they were expecting 500.
First, after signup, there was a panel with the ad coms from BU, Yale, Georgetown and Darden.
The panel was nothing new for us Gmat clubbers as far as application strategies go.
Some highlights:
I picked up the new booklet from Yale and there latest incoming GMAT avg is 722!
I asked Bruce Delmonico (head of admissions at Yale) if they are actively trying to move up the rankings and he gave me a "uh duh" look.
Penn State told me McKinsey is coming to campus next year! (not sure about that though)
So may people were asking really stupid questions....i know i know, there is no such thing as a "stupid" question
but if i have the head of admission at Booths' ear I'm not asking her if campus is metro accessible. lol
I slipped in a quickie to the Booth people. I told them that I know someone from Booth and have visited campus although not officially. I then asked if there was any benefit in the ad coms
eyes for me to make an official visit. She flat out said NO, we dont give brownie points for school visits, just show us you know the school in the essays.
All the schools echoed the standard stuff, "we review all applicants holistically" " we dont have any cut-offs for GPA/GMAT."
No one was at the INSEAD table, I think most people are unaware. Most people in suits, no one in jeans (except for some hippies who crashed the bar. Damn hippies)
Other then asking schools questions specific to me it was great to see and meet the ad coms.
I havent reached out to too many schools thus far and was very nice to see them as just regular people.
Kind of reminded of an HR department.
If you haven't been to something like this its worth a go. I got some ad coms cards and opened up a line of communication but its nothing that cant be done online.
Best,
