Has anyone attended an MBA fair like what The MBA Tour offers? I'm trying to decide if one of their events are worth going to. This particular event is free, but I would still need to drive out and spend the whole day at it. What are you experiences are these kinds of fairs, and are they helpful?

I'd say its worth the trip if there are reps from schools you may be applying to, but wont get the chance to visit.

I hated my last experience, it was a bunch of shmoozing and hot air... I went to "Inside the MBA" in Jan (was debating applying R3).

I'm happy none of the school I'm interested in will be participating in the MBA tour near me. Now I dont have to talk myself out of going. (although, there is a slight chance I will anyway... Because of one school... Damn)

So... to answer your question, it may be a necessary evil in this whole process if you're applying to schools you cant visit.

It's helpful in the early stages to learn about all of the schools, collect info, chat with reps, get a general feel for things. Once you have narrowed things down, there are better ways to go about doing research on the schools you are most interested in - such as visiting a school or talking with students and alums.
