Hello,
I have a bit of an unorthodox resume, as I have an electrical/industrial background, and now work for a large municipal government. I am in the process of finishing my undergraduate degree (graduate this fall), but have held a management position for some time. According to the schools that I have contacted (most on the list below), that qualifies me for direct entry.
Specifics:
Canadian/American MBA Profile: 34 Caucasian Male
Undergrad: NAIT – Bachelor of Business Administration, Management (3 classes to complete, will be done in Dec, 2021) – 3.9/4 GPA
Journeyman Electrician: SAIT/Red Seal
Alberta Master Electrician: NAIT
MMP professional designation
GMAT: 640 (Q43, V35, IR7) – am hoping to rewrite and get closer to the 660-700 I achieved on the last 3 OG practice exams.
Work Experience:
4-5 years of management experience. Current role is as a project lead for a large municipal government. Internal and external reports, 10 million annual budget. A blend of technical/government/management responsibilities.
Goals:
My post MBA goals are to advance within the existing municipal organization, but I don’t want to just ‘tick the MBA box’ – I want to be equipped and challenged through the process. For this reason I am looking to enter the best program I can, hopefully with a partial scholarship. Most options are blended/online, with the exception of Calgary (local, evenings/weekends, first choice).
Recommendations:
I have solid reference letters from my workplace manager and from an academic instructor.
Schools:
Calgary/Haskayne
Queens/Smith
Regina/Levene
Dalhousie
Schulich (possibility only if blended option is available in Fall 2022)
Reaches (USA - these are likely out of my price point unless a significant scholarship is offered)
Baylor/Hankamer
Johns Hopkins/Carey
Boston/Questrom
Any advice would be most appreciated. There seems to be much less readily available information on Canadian Uni MBA acceptance rates and scholarships.
Thank you for reading!
