Hi Everyone,
Quick Background: I am an AWS Cloud Engineer in one of Cloud native firm, Total 5 years of work Ex. 2 years in Oil and gas, rest 3 in Cloud -IT.
Question : There are various certifications involved in cloud industry. Last year I got AWS-SA & sysops certified. Now I am at point where I am unable to decide to whether I shall start preparing for GMAT to get into B School so that I can land to a manager level role in corporate or shall I continue getting certified in cloud to climb up the corporate ladder ? Which of the option is more lucrative guys.
My Interest is in tech but I want to enhance my horizon in learning as well as pay wise. Within cloud filed I can see potential earning 27K USD/annum.

In my opinion, the answer lies with you. You have to decide how you want to see yourself after 5-8 years. If you want to opt for managerial role go for GMAT. If tech excites you, build a career in that.
Both the options will pay you good if you do good in either of them. It is the individual capability and ability that make him/her stand out among others when it comes to grabbing a high paying job offer.

I think ultimately you want to see what comes more natural to you and where you would be more likely to succeed. You need to be super honest with yourself and really look deep down into what makes you thrive and what makes you happy. For some people, they are happy when they can focus on the task and nobody’s distracting them. For others, they want to work on carpentry or woodworking where it’s just them and their project and they can perfect it. Some people thrive being surrounded by other people and some like helping other people and sharing the joy of that help.
You can earn money either way but your best chance to be the best, most successful and likely have the best earning potential is to have the most natural fit with your career. So would you rather be in engineer and spend most of your time in code and go up the engineering ladder? At Amazon, senior engineers are like gods for example. At the same time, there are a lot of the program managers and product managers who work on a variety of things and keep getting changed in and out.
Getting an MBA, would give you a path and a pretty good one to become a product manager at one of the tech companies but do you have to be good in collaborating and working with other people and be a good communicator and a personable person to succeed in progress beyond the first entry points. Otherwise you’ll be stuck at the entry level of a product manager and manage a boring product…
There is the lure of the money but most of your income will not come in your 20s or 30s. Most of your earning potential is actually in your 40s and 50s. It’s hard to think that’s far out but really the best way to get to that spot in the sky in the company corporate ladder as possible is to have a great match of your skills and your job.
