I guess the answer is B

A,C,E are wrong because they are awkward..

Between B and D, B prevails.

Fitting X into Y is the correct idiom.

A - "it" is ambiguous and the sentence is awkward
B - Seems right - correct
C - problem....is that of fitting - very awkward
D - available for seeing - redundant
E - problem is the need - awkward - the need is not the problem - fulfilling that need is the problem - the right word is fitting

--> that of is awkward. see is redundant. it is ambiguous. Ending a sentence with a preposition is not good according to mikemcgarry.

B. fitting what people want to see into the time they have available

--> no issues --> correct.

C. that of fitting what people want to see in the time which they have available

--> that of is awkward. There should be comma (,) before relative pronoun which.

D. fitting what people want to see in the time they have available for seeing

--> for seeing is redundant.

E. the need to fit what people want to see into the available time for seeing

--> One of the perennial problems can not be the need. for seeing is redundant.

That of has nothing singular to refer to in the first part. Eliminate A and C

For + Verb ing is non-sensical here as no intention is present. Eliminate D, E

Answer is B

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION:



"Fitting in" and "fitting something into" are two different idioms, and in this case we need ‘into’.

Of the remaining choices (B and E), B is shorter and better. The expression ‘available time for seeing’ is awkward.
