A. Each of us were equipped - were plural, Each is singular.
B. Equipping ourselves - run on sentence
C. Every one of were equipped - of not required, were is plural.
D. Each of us was equipped - was singular seems correct
E. Equipped as we are - as ...equipped as seems correct.

between D & E.

D for me.. Equipped as we 'are' seems wrong since the sentence is in the past.

Each is a singular pronoun, so each…. were doesn’t agree;(A) dies.
(C) has the same problem, because every is also singular.
( B) and (E) create sentence fragments without a main subject/ verb arrangement.

use of the verb ' traveled ' correct subject would be ' each '
use of ' were ' is incorrect because each is singular
correct usage is " Each of us was equipped "
correct answer - D

Each of us is singular, hence we need was.
B. Equipping ourselves
This is a fragment
C. Every one of were equipped
Every one is singular, hence we need was. Moreover "us" is missing
D. Each of us was equipped
Correct
E. Equipped as we are
This is again a fragment

B. Equipping ourselves - We need a verb for overall Sentence here 'As we travelled the back road of Arkansas' is a Dependent Clause.

C. Every one of were equipped - Incorrect

D. Each of us was equipped - Correct

E. Equipped as we are - Incorrect


IMO D is correct

As we traveled the back roads of Arkansas, each of us were equipped with a canteen, a knife, and a compass.

A. Each of us were equipped. Wrong Subj. Verb Agreement Error. Each is singular and should go with singular verb WAS
B. Equipping ourselves Wrong Modifiers Error.
C. Every one of were equipped Wrong Same as option A
D. Each of us was equipped Correct
E. Equipped as we are Wrong Modifiers Error.
