Usage of "and" in "...most patients with this disorder ignore early symptoms before the habit becomes a compulsion and they can't resist the temptation to steal" doesn't captures the Cause-Effect relationship between the ignorance of early symptoms and the urge to steal, leading to a Meaning error. This option suggests that ignorance of early symptoms of the disorder leads to a compulsion, but what that compulsion is not clear, and that these patients can't resist the temptation to steal. Thus, this options is not capturing the intended meaning. Also, the elements on the either side of "and" are not parallel.
B. this disorder and early symptoms are ignored by most patients until the habit becomes compulsive and-Wrong
This option suggests that "disorder" and "early symptoms" are unaware of dangers of kleptomania, leading to Comparison error. Who is unaware of the dangers? The patients. So after the comma, we must have the subject and nothing else. This rules out B and D. Also if you read E, it says ‘before the habit becomes compulsive, which they can’t resist’ that is clearly wrong.
This leaves A and C. In A, there is pronoun ambiguity. What does they refer to? Then patients or the symptoms? Thus this wrong. Answer - C
