We have two splits :
1. Between "basis for" and "basis of". We need "basis of" here and not "basis for", though both are idiomatically correct.
* "Basis of" means starting point of something or important info over which it can be further developed.
* "Basis for" means an info or argument that can be used to prove something.
2. Past perfect "Had" vs. simple past.
As we don't have two related actions that need sequencing, we must use simple past tense.
It is commonly understood that action of "visiting" must have done prior to the action of "forming the basis".
Having two thoughts in mind we can eliminate all but C.
A. the basis for his book about the places he had visited.
B. the basis for his book regarding the places he had visited.
C. the basis of his book about the places he visited.
D. the basis of his book about the places which he had visited.
E. the basis of his book about the places he had visited

Experts, will you pls suggest why D is wrong.
In my opinion between "places" and "he" we need a conjunction otherwise it will be a run on sentence.

About option E: I think we need a time sequence here. First George visited some places, and then personal diary and album formed the basis of the book.
Or is the reason why we do not have time sequence that it is not the places he visited that formed the basis, it is personal diary and album?
