It is all about knowing what is modifying what and then placing them correctly.
onto the artwork first used in the early 1980s -- again first used in the early 1980s can modify sponges or water gels and logically not to artwork.
minimize -- minimize could parallel with release or apply !!
Main VERB -- There is NO verb with main subject water gel.
main verb -- release is the main verb and is correctly used
minimizing..... -- the ING modifier is correctly modifying and talking about the previous action.
