C. seems more likely to prolong controversy on the patterns of migration at the moment than---- The patterns of migration are past events. They are not happening at the moment. Therefore, they cannot be clubbed together as that will amount to misplaced word order.
D. seems more likely at the moment to prolong controversy over the patterns of migration than to – at the moment point to what the problem is on hand now. – Correct choice
E. seems more likely that it will prolong controversy on the patterns of migration at the moment than to--- the Same problem as in C.
But I am curious to know, what the pronoun ‘them’ in the non-underlined part is referring to? If it is referring to the patterns, can we accept that abundance of sources is trying to solve the patterns that occurred hundreds of years ago? What about the controversy? It is acceptable to say that the sources are trying to solve the controversy. However, the hitch is that controversy is not plural. Any ideas?
