The mountain climber’s decision to abandon his friend on the slope to find help would change the lives of both men.

Meaning:
The mountain climber took a decision. This decision would change the lives.
-The decision was about abandoning his friend on the slope
-What's the purpose of abandoning?
-to find help

Error:
'The mountain climber’s decision to abandon... ' (Meaning Error)
->It incorrectly conveys that the decision was taken for the purpose of abandoning his friend. Actually, the decision was about abandoning his friend.
-> The correct way to express that above portion is to use 'the+noun+of' format.

POE:
A) mountain climber’s decision to abandon his friend on the slope to find help would change the lives of both men. Incorrect

B) decision from the mountain climber that led to him abandoning his friend on the slope to find help would change both men’s lives. Incorrect

-> The decision of abandoning vs the decision that led to him abandoning( the later one is wordy)

C) decision made by the mountain climber on the slope of abandoning his friend to find help would be life-changing for both men.Incorrect

-> Meaning Error: The decision was not taken on the slope, rather the decision of abandoning his friend on the slope was taken.

D) mountain climber’s decision of abandoning his friend on the slope to find help would change the lives of both men.Correct

E) mountain climber’s decision to abandon his friend to find help on the slope would change the lives of both men. Incorrect

-> Same error as in A
-> Meaning Error: the decision....to find help on the slope.
