I also got D but the question confuses me as the verb "combines" strikes me as and odd choice. I understand that it is in the correct grammatical form, but from the meaning it appears strange. When I read the sentence it seems to me as if the bird actively combines the two types of muscles. This of course in not the case. The bird has these special muscles but this is simply a characteristic which the bird is born with. It does not actively combine the two types of muscles.
Could someone please explain to me why from the meaning we can use the verb combine in this sentence?
