In this case, what comes before as well as is a singular noun - the surgeon. Therefore, the subject is singular, and the verb should also be singular.

Hey,
I was confused between options A & C.
I selected Option A because the sickness of doctor is of more emphasis than the sickness of nurses and hence use of as well as is proper.
