This answer choice draws an illogical comparison between aluminum alloy bicycle frames and the material iron. In a comparison, the two elements compared should be comparable. Thus, one can compare two materials (aluminum and iron), or the things made of two materials (aluminum bicycle frames and iron bicycle frames), but not a thing made of a material and another material.
What helps us identify this question as a Comparative question as well as identify the original mistake is the following Stop Sign:
- Like, unlike, than, as
B. far more lightweight as are iron frames
This answer choice is illogical as well as grammatically incorrect and repeats the comparative error in the original sentence. More cannot be complemented by as because more indicates an inequality between the two things compared whereas as indicates a similarity between them.

In the original sentence, the aluminum alloy frame is said to be far lighter than the iron frames, but in this answer it simply states that it is lighter. That tells us nothing about the degree of weight put forth in the original sentence.
E. exceedingly more lightweight when compared to iron frames
Not quite.
Although this answer choice corrects the original Comparative mistake and is grammatically correct, the phrase more lightweight when compared to is awkward and wordy.
