I'll be honest--I'm not sure why one would be preferred over the other here.

(A) emerging from the ground-breaking technological advancements and the need for protecting the environment through cleaner automobiles,

"emerging" is referring to " auto manufacturers, that is incorrect.

(B) because of the emergence of ground-breaking technological advancements and the need for cleaner vehicles to protect the environment, \

looks good, keep it.

(C) the emergence of ground-breaking technological advancements and the need for cleaner vehicles for protecting the environment have occurred, and

so now, there is no causal connection between "the emergence" and " auto manufacturers". out

(D) due to emerging of ground-breaking technological advancements and the need for protecting the environment through cleaner vehicles,

"due to" is used to modify nouns, so here we want something that modify the clause "the manufacturers have introduced", so that includes the verb, so usage "due to" is not proper. In addition, "emerging of" and "the need for protecting" are conveying a different meaning that now is a little bit off.

(E) due to the emergence of ground-breaking technological advancements and the need for cleaner vehicles to protect the environment

same as D)

Answer is B)

If you look up the distinction between "due to" and "because of," you'll find a bunch of people asserting that "due to" should refer to nouns. By that reasoning, E would be wrong because the manufacturers themselves are not "due to the emergence." Why wouldn't we also use "because of" to modify nouns, and use "because" + clause to modify actions? No one ever says--they just assert this distinction as a rule.

Now, when was the last time I used this distinction on a real GMAT question? Never. I have never used it.
