Wrong because ‘them’ does not have an antecedent.
D. is that the author of the pamphlet deliberately sabotaged it
Wrong because ‘it’ is singular and can refer to either the author or the pamphlet.
E. is that the pamphlet’s author deliberately sabotaged the pamphlet
Correct as it removes the ambiguity present in option D.
My take is that E is the answer. (Fingers crossed)
