A ten-year comparison between the countries of Arudia and Cazonia in terms of crop yields
per acre revealed that when only planted acreae is compared, Cazonian yields are equal to 68
percent of Arudian yields. When total agricultural acreage (planted acreage plus fallow
acreage) is compared, however, Cazonia’s yield is 114 percent of Arudia’s yield.

From the information above, which of the following can be most reliably inferred about Arudian
and Cazonian agriculture during the ten-year period?

A. A higher percentage of total agricultural acreage was fallow in Arudia than in Cazonia.
B. Arudia had more fallow acreage than planted acreage.
C. Fewer total acres of available agricultural land were fallow in Cazonia than in Arudia.
D. Cazonia had more planted acreage than fallow acreage.
E. Cazonia produced a greater volume of crops than Arudia produced.

+1 KUDOS PLEASE!!! NEED THEM TO UNLOCK PRACTICE TEST.

prospects are a. and e.
A. since total produce is more in C city......and per acre planted area yield is less...... it has a lower fallow % area....
since total produce is less in A city......and per acre planted area yield is more..... it has a higher fallow % area....

correct.

B. Cazonia produced a greater volume of crops than Arudia produced..... WE ARE NOT CONCERED WITH VOLUME OF CROP BUT YIELD.....SHELL GAME ANSWER.......

wrong.

Can anyone explain me how the answer is A?
A. A higher percentage of total agricultural acreage was fallow in Arudia than in Cazonia.

Pc = Planted acreage in Cazonia, Fc = Fallow acreage in Cazonia => Pc + Fc = Tc (Total acreage in Cazonia)
Pa = Planted acreage in Arudia, Fa = Fallow acreage in Arudia => Pa + Fa = Ta (Total acreage in Arudia)

Let us take an example. Let Pa = 100 => Pc = 68. Now, also let Ta = 200. => Tc = 228 (as it is 114%). So, by the formulae given above, Fa = 100, and Fc = 160. If we calculate the %, Fc is 70% Tc, & Fa is 50% Ta,,... now, make any permutation & combination, you will always find Fc > Fa...
Please explain the flaw!

Fallow - ploughed and harrowed but left for a period without being sown in order to restore its fertility or to avoid surplus production.
since total produce is more in C city......and per acre planted area yield is less...... it has a lower fallow % area.... How can it have lower fallow are , it must have higher fallow area

Hi!
Can you please explain your line of reasoning? What I understand is that:
1. City A:
Produces more but has fewer planted acreage

2. City B:
Produces less but has more planted acreage.

However, I don’t understand why it has a lower fallow % ☹
