D) Some sciences can yield mathematically precise results that are not inherently suspect.

Taylor: Science can not be exact. Precise claim is suspect.

Sandra: Many scientific disciplines obtain extremely precise results. Precise claim is not a suspect.

So both can not agree of statement D) above.

And D)

Can you explain in more detail by using POE. I marked C as answer.

Taylor: Researchers at a local university claim that 61 percent of the information transferred during a conversation is communicated through nonverbal signals. But this claim, like all such mathematically precise claims, is suspect, because claims of such exactitude could never be established by science.

Sandra: While precision is unobtainable in many areas of life, it is commonplace in others. Many scientific disciplines obtain extremely precise results, which should not be doubted merely because of their precision.

The statements above provide the most support for holding that Sandra would disagree with Taylor about which one of the following statements?

A) Research might reveal that 61 percent of the information taken in during a conversation is communicated through nonverbal signals.
Sandra may agree as She believes - While precision is unobtainable in many areas of life, it is commonplace in others.-Eliminate

B) It is possible to determine whether 61 percent of the information taken in during a conversation is communicated through nonverbal signals.
Sandra may agree as She believes -Many scientific disciplines obtain extremely precise results.-Eliminate

C) The study of verbal and nonverbal communication is an area where one cannot expect great precision in one's research results.
Sandra may agree as She believes-precision is unobtainable in many areas of life-Eliminate

D) Some sciences can yield mathematically precise results that are not inherently suspect.-Correct

Taylor: Science can not be exact. Precise claim is suspect.

Sandra: Many scientific disciplines obtain extremely precise results. Precise claim is not a suspect.

So both can not agree of statement D) above.

E) If inherently suspect claims are usually false, then the majority of claims made by scientists are false as well.-Irrelevant -Eliminate

I have a doubt here. As per the question stem we have to find an answer choice with which Taylor agrees but Sandra doesn't. Taylor suspects the results obtained by Science while Sandra doesn't. By this option D can be eliminated. I took C. Please help me with this.

We are searching answer choice for which Sandra would disagree with Taylor.

So answer choice we are looking for can be statement with which a) Sandra agrees but Taylor doesn't or Vice-versa i.e. b) Taylor agrees but Sandra doesn't.

Hope this Helps :-)

Can anyone help explaining this?

This LSAT specific question type, known as a Point-At-Issue question, is asking us which statement Sandra would likely disagree with Taylor on.

Let's walk through the choices:

A) This one doesn't quite cut it because it's about the possibility of research revealing a particular percentage, which isn't really what they're debating.

B) It's a bit closer, but again, the argument isn't so much about determining a specific percentage - it's about whether exact claims can be trusted.

C) This could be a tempting choice because it's about precision in research, but it's more specific to the study of communication, which isn't the heart of the debate.

D) Ding ding ding! This is right on the money. This is exactly what they're arguing about - whether precise results from science can be trusted. Sandra would definitely disagree with Taylor on this one.

E) This is out of left field. They're not debating whether most claims by scientists are false.

So, there you have it! D is the one we're looking for.

Taylor says that mathematically precise claims cannot be established by science but Sandra says that extreme results can be obtained. Sandra will disagress with Taylor on D - as it says that sciences can give precise results: So Sandra will agree with this statement and Taylor will disagree.
