Industrial and automobile pollution have long been thought to contribute to global warming.
--> Existing theory? Agreed

Quote:
However, researchers have identified that the carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide released into the atmosphere are not as potent as the methane emitted by cud-chewing animals such as cows when they fart or belch.
--> New Theory? Yes, but did the author present it ? No, researchers did, and the author used the 'New theory' to support his 'New school of thoughts'
--> Is the researcher and the author same person ? No

C. The author presents a new theory in response to an existing well-established theory --> It is not a new theory, researchers have identified it before

D. The author uses an illustration to support a new school of thought that is contrary to a popular school of thought

Hope it helps :thumbup:

Researchers have identified.....

[color=#ff00ff]not before

So something which researcher have identified can be called new theory...

Just my views....

But why are you much concerned about second party i.e Researcher's finding and not about author's.
I mean, are we not looking for an answer from the authors point of view(most of the times in CR) ?

Although both C and D are the only contenders, its just that option D matches the reasoning of the stimulus more than the former.

For an instance,
You are aware of Donald Trump's ideologies,which are new, and you equally support those ideologies. You made a reference to his ideologies in your speech.
But the particular ideologies you have used in your speech are not New/Orginal, its someone else's ideologies(new) that you have used to support your claim.

Drops mic ! :thumbup:
