premise; Toby has breakfast at Good Eats Diner every morning before work. He always orders the same thing: two eggs over easy with three strips of extra crispy bacon, unbuttered wheat toast, and a large coffee.
conclusion; Today, he ordered a bagel with light cream cheese and a large orange juice. Something must be wrong with Toby.

All of the following, if true, are also plausible explanations for Tobys behavior EXCEPT

A. Toby has decided to limit the cholesterol in his diet. ; believable
B. a new cook started at Good Eats today. believable
C. Toby simply wanted a change of pace. is odd one out
D. Toby has gone on a diet. believable

E. Toby has decided to become a vegetarian.

ARGUMENT
[premise] Toby always orders the same thing: eggs + bacon + toast + coffee;
[premise] However, TODAY, he ordered something else: LIGHT cream and juice;
[conclusion] Thus, something must be wrong with Toby;
[assumption] Something must have happened BEFORE TODAY that changed Toby's order.

A. "has decided" this happened before today, plausible.
C. "wanted a change of pace" this happened before today, plausible.
D. "has gone on a diet" this happened before today, plausible.
E. "has decided" this happened before today, plausible.

Answer (B): "a new cook started…today" this happened TODAY.

Option A, C, D, and E are connected to Toby except option B which is related to cook.

Certainly B is correct choice.

Competition Mode Question

Toby has breakfast at Good Eats Diner every morning before work. He always orders the same thing: two eggs over easy with three strips of extra crispy bacon, unbuttered wheat toast, and a large coffee. Today, he ordered a bagel with light cream cheese and a large orange juice. Something must be wrong with Toby.

All of the following, if true, are also plausible explanations for Tobys behavior EXCEPT

A. Toby has decided to limit the cholesterol in his diet.
B. a new cook started at Good Eats today.
C. Toby simply wanted a change of pace.
D. Toby has gone on a diet.
E. Toby has decided to become a vegetarian.

Official Explanation

Correct Answer: B

Perhaps something was wrong with Toby, causing him to deviate from his normal course of action, but there are many other plausible explanations, including his decision to avoid foods high in cholesterol (choice a), a simple desire for a change of pace (choice c), a decision to go on a diet and eat foods lower in fat (choice d), or a decision to eat only vegetarian foods (choice e).
