In terms of its logical features, the argument above most resembles which one of the following?

The question talks about reptiles in general and than deduces about the alligator ( a type of reptile).
Similar logic seen in choice B.

In terms of its logical features, the argument above most resembles which one of the following?

(A) Green plants take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen back into the air; so it follows that grass takes in carbon dioxide and releases oxygen into the air.
Option A is in line with pre-thinking

(B) Some red butterflies are poisonous to birds that prey on them: so this particular red butterfly is poisonous to birds that prey on it.
This option talks about a relation with another element (the birds which prey on RB). Out

(C) Knowledge about the empirical world can be gained from books; so Virginia Woolfs' book A Room of One's Own must provide knowledge about the empirical world.
This option does not talk about the nature of the category/element. It talks about what we can learn out of it. Out

(D) Dierdre has seen every film directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder: so Dierdre must have seen Ali: Fear Eats the Soul, a film directed by Fassbinder.
The nature is not even discussed. Out

The argument has one of the typical GMAT logical reasonings i.e.
A is a main set and B is a subset of A.
Now set A has a feature/characteristic C (applies to all elements in set A), so B, which is a subset of set A, also possesses the feature/characteristic C.

Reptiles : set A
Alligators: set B
Features of Set A: C

Option A follows the exact same line of reasoning. Hence, A is correct Ans option.

­Object A has some attributes. Object B of the same type as A must have similar attributes

Object A = reptiles
Object B = alligators (of the same type as reptiles)
Attributes = air-breathing vertebrates with ossified skeletons

Only Choice A follows the same pattern

Object A = green plants
Object B = grass (of the same type as green plants)
Attributes = takes in carbon-di-oxide and releases oxygen into the air

(B) Some red butterflies are poisonous to birds that prey on them; so this particular red butterfly is poisonous to birds that prey on it. - WRONG. Absolutely wrong. No logic at all.

(C) Knowledge about the empirical world can be gained from books; so Virginia Woolf’s book A Room of One’s Own must provide knowledge about the empirical world. - WRONG. The inference part is missing.

(D) Dierdre has seen every film directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder; so Dierdre must have seen Ali: Fear Eats the Soul, a film directed by Fassbinder. - WRONG. Makes sense as E makes. Logic is bang on. However, it misses the inference part. The gap the passage has this choice has none.

(E) Skiers run a high risk of bone fracture; so it is likely that Lindsey, who has been an avid skier for many years, has suffered a broken bone at some point. - WRONG. Makes sense in itself and logic is bang on. The structure changes since Lindsey is an skier could have been the inference.

From passage it can be inferred that alligators are reptiles.
