Thanks for the explanation. But what I dont understand is the use of the "increased membership fees paid by the newer gym users". No where in the argument does it mention that the new prospective users will pay more in fees. Can you please elaborate on that?

Option (A) is supported by the argument while option (E) is not. Consider them again.

Trainers acting as sales people is keeping managers happy. That means whatever managers pay to trainers to act as sales people must be less than the revenue the trainers bring in through their sales pitches. The managers are happy with the arrangement means it is working out financially.
So the argument supports option (A). It implies that (A) is true.
(A) The hourly cost of paying personal trainers to act as sales staff is less than the revenue generated by the increase in membership fees paid by the newer gym users.

On the other hand,
(E) Each new membership that a gym earns generates enough revenue to cover the cost of paying a single trainer to give free tours and advice for that day.
Does the argument imply that 1 new membership covers the cost of trainer for 1 day? No. No such data is given or implied.
It is possible that one new membership does not cover the cost of 1 trainer for 1 day but 2 new memberships do. Perhaps each trainer brings in 5 new members every day and hence the arrangement is cost effective which is all we care about.
So option (E) is not supported by the argument.

Answer (A)

Explanation

Managers hope to maximize profits. They have “long known” this method is one of the best ways to attract new members. They are explicitly said to be happy with the arrangement. Trainers are paid during this time, so the arrangement clearly has a cost.

If managers keep using this strategy and are satisfied with it, the passage strongly supports the idea that the additional revenue from new memberships outweighs the cost of paying trainers to do sales-related work. That is exactly what A states.

B invents claims about low pay and high stress that the passage never mentions.

C directly contradicts the passage, which says both managers and trainers are happy.

D makes claims about prospective members’ preferences that aren’t supported.

E is far too specific (one membership covering one trainer for one day); the passage gives no such precise accounting.
