Correct Option C

Candidate:
Today’s voters expect their government to be accountable.
Virtually, every improvement in government’s accountability inspires a new round of demands for greater accountability.
If a politician is satisfied with the government’s current level of accountability,
that politician will soon find that the constituents are not.
As your representative in parliament, meeting your demands for accountability will be my goal!

Which of the following must be true on the basis of the statements above?

A. The candidate’s competitors will succeed in attracting voters only
if those competitors adopt the candidate’s goals as their own.
Wrong: Irrelevant, no such information is given.

B. The candidate’s goal is possible to meet, only if
it is possible to continue the current advances in government accountability.
Wrong: no such information mentioned

C. A politician who fails to accurately anticipate the demands of the constituents is certain
to fail in advancing government accountability
Correct: Must be true

D. If a politician becomes satisfied with the accountability that the government displays,
the government accountability will decline.
Wrong: we need relation between the politician – government – constituents – demands by voters

E. The candidate’s constituents are currently satisfied with the accountability displayed by the government.
Wrong: candidates demand to meet new goals

Please find the response to your question below:

Correct answer: (B)

Understanding the Statements

The candidate states;

There is an expectation of accountability from the voters.

Each advancement in accountability triggers a new set of demands for accountability.

If a politician is satisfied with the current level, constituents soon won’t be.

The candidate’s goal is to provide accountability that the constituents expect.

Primary logical implication
Since demands for accountability keep rising whenever improvements in accountability occur, continuous improvements in accountability are necessary to ensure that constituents’ demands are met.

If improvements stop, demands surpass improvements, and the objective is unachievable.

Hence, the candidate’s goal is achievable only if accountability practices are capable of achieving further progress.

Why are other options wrong
(A) No evidence about competitors.
(C) Says failure is “certain” – too strong and unsupported.
(D) Satisfaction does not lead to a Decline in Accountability
(E) Opposite of implied – satisfaction of voters does not last.
