Solicitor: Loux named Zembaty executor of her will. Her only beneficiary was her grandson, of whom she was very fond. Prior to distributing the remainder to the beneficiary, Zembaty was legally required to choose which properties in the estate should be sold to clear the estate's heavy debts. Loux never expressed any particular desire about the Stoke Farm, which includes the only farmland in her estate. Thus, it is unlikely that Loux would have had any objection to Zembaty's having sold it rather than having transferred it to her grandson.

Which one of the following, if true, most weakens the solicitor's argument?

(A) The estate's debts could not have been cleared without selling the Stoke Farm.
(B) Loux repeatedly told her grandson that she would take care of him in her will.
(C) Loux was well aware of the legal requirements the executor of her will would have to satisfy.
(D) The Stoke Farm was the main cause of the estate's debts.
(E) Loux's grandson had repeatedly expressed his desire to own a farm.

Please explain why E is the correct option.

Step 1: Analyse the conclusion

It says that it is unlikely that Loux will have any objection to the lawyer selling the farm

Which one of the following, if true, most weakens the solicitor's argument?

(A) The estate's debts could not have been cleared without selling the Stoke Farm.
Lets see if this was the case then are we sure that Loux will have/not have any objections, because see lets say Louz has a property X that can be very well used to clear her debt but then again Loux may have wanted to retain it, and therefore objected the sale of prop x and wanted to sell the farm, this yeilds no significant conclusion also it says she never had any particular desire about this farm, so although she had alternate ways of clearing debt she still may not have objection to selling farm.

Wrong

(B) Loux repeatedly told her grandson that she would take care of him in her will.
Irrelevant, she still is taking care of him, by naming him in her will.

(C) Loux was well aware of the legal requirements the executor of her will would have to satisfy.
Even if she was this doesnt talk anything about whether she objected or didnt object the executors decisio.

(D) The Stoke Farm was the main cause of the estate's debts.

Selling it makes more sense then, 180 degree answer, she would have supported the sale.

(E) Loux's grandson had repeatedly expressed his desire to own a farm.
NOW HERE COMES THE CHOICE, if her grandson expressed desire to own a farm and this was her only farm, she would have most probably objected the sale. 100% weakening the conclusio

Which one of the following, if true, most weakens the solicitor's argument?

(A) The estate's debts could not have been cleared without selling the Stoke Farm. - WRONG. 2nd best for me. The language is convoluted which makes the option a trap. If selling's a necessity then Loux could not have done anything. Hence, she raising objection is not an option for her.
(B) Loux repeatedly told her grandson that she would take care of him in her will. - WRONG. Plain wrong as it has not impact on the passage.
(C) Loux was well aware of the legal requirements the executor of her will would have to satisfy. - WRONG. Like C it is also irrelevant.
(D) The Stoke Farm was the main cause of the estate's debts. - WRONG. Then what!! Nothing as such happens if that's the case.
(E) Loux's grandson had repeatedly expressed his desire to own a farm. - CORRECT. POE helps. Her fondnes for her grandson would not have let her sell the farm.

Answer E.
