Four married couples- Francisco and Gabrielle, Kyoko and Lee, Olivia and Peter, Raymond and Simone- will dine together at the same circular table. Each person will sit in a different one of the eight chairs evenly spaced around the table. The chairs are numbered from 1 through 8 with successively numbered chairs next to each other and chair 1 next to chair 8. Seating arrangements must meet the following conditions:
No person sits next to her or his spouse.
Simone sits in chair 1 and Raymond sits in chair 4.
Neither Peter nor Olivia sits next to Raymond.
Neither Kyoko nor Lee sits next to Gabrielle.
If neither Gabrielle nor Lee sits next to Raymond, which one of the following must be true?
(A) Francisco sits next to Raymond.
(B) Olivia sits next to Simone.
(C) Francisco sits in chair 3.
(D) Olivia sits in chair 6.
(E) Olivia sits in chair 7.
Such a long question that one gets lost but upon reading it properly the answer seems to be just a mere guess between two.
The position of people can be
S1, _, _, R4, _, _, _, _
Couple S/R sit at 1 and 4 and we have two conditions given for R. Based on that condition we have a situation where we can look for chair number 3 and 5 for if there is any lockout condition.
At 3 and 5 P/O/G/L cannot sit thus only F and K can sit.
Also, among the choices A and C stand some chance for both give us some direction. I don't why I chose C over A but A makes sense for the certainty it provides, whereas C is not necessrily true.
