Understanding Necessary and Sufficient Conditions for GMAT Critical Reasoning
I conducted two sessions on necessary and sufficient conditions in GMAT Critical Reasoning, and I'm sharing the recordings here for anyone who might find them helpful.
Part 1: Foundation and Basic Concepts
In this first session, we cover:
- Basic concepts of necessary and sufficient conditions
- How to identify these conditions in GMAT questions
- Common misconceptions students face
- Analysis of official GMAT questions
Part 2: Advanced Application
The second session builds on these concepts with:
- Techniques for handling complex statements
- A practical approach to "unless" statements
- More practice with official questions
- Discussion of strengthening/weakening arguments with necessary conditions
These concepts appear across different Critical Reasoning question types - inference, strengthen/weaken, and assumptions. While they're not tested in every question, clearly understanding these concepts can help improve your accuracy.
The sessions are interactive, with participants working through examples and asking questions. I've included both basic and complex official GMAT questions to help demonstrate how these concepts are tested.
