5/6 and 0.8333 respectively..

The best approach is to know the pattern of fractions... For example, any fraction, N/3 would be of form X.3333333 or a multiple of it (Y.6666666) or integer
Or, any factor, N/4 would be of form X.25 or a multiple (Y.50, Z.75) or integer
And so on...

For the given question
It comes down to:
5/6 * 1/7 * 7/8 * 8/9 * 9= 5/6 or 0.83333

Recognizing patterns in decimals was a long pending issue with me. So after seeing this question I decided to prepare following chart.
Following chart can help you to recognize patterns in decimal places (also applicable for percentage) and you can pic appropriate fraction using it.

I hope this chart will save your effort and time, take a print and paste it on your ceiling :)

Now back to the question:

0.8333 is 5/6,
0.143 is 1/7,
0.875 is 7/8,
0.889 is 8/9

Now it is easy to solve this question.

Let me show one calculation to you..

1/6= 0.1666666...
Or
1-1/6= 1-0.166666666..

Or 5/6= 0.83333333..

Let me see, how do you better this approach?

Dude- it's not that I'm not convinced with your approach..It's great and shows the right one i think but as Macfauz rightly mentioned i was looking for official explanation from Veritas (as they're in this business and always strive to improvise things!)
