Answer = D = 176

12 miles = 12 * 5280

1hour = 60 * 60 seconds

Distance travelled in 10 seconds \(= \frac{12 * 10 * 5280}{60*60} = 176\)

D. 176

Kudos for a correct solution.

When working on changing units, it is advisable to do it in a single step with the units to avoid errors:

\(\frac{12 miles}{1 hour} = \frac{12 * 5280 feet}{60 * 60 secs} = 17.6 feet/sec\)

So distance traveled in 10 secs is 176 feet.

A. 60
B. 88
C. 120
D. 176

Kudos for a correct solution.
12 miles = 12 * 5280
= 63360 feet

Someone is skateboarding at 63360 feet per hour.
In 1 hour (i.e. 3600 seconds), distance travelled is 63360 feet.
So, in 10 seconds, distance travelled is (63360 * 10)/3600
= 176 feet

Hence option (D).

+1 for D. 1 Mile =5280 feet. Distance traveled in 60 minutes=12*5280 feet
Therefore, distance traveled in 10s=5280*2/60=176 feet

MAGOOSH OFFICIAL SOLUTION:

The speed is 12 mph. To change this to feet/second, we need to multiply by (5280 ft/mile), to cancel miles, and to multiply by (1 hour/3600 second) to cancel seconds.

Clocked 55 sec on this one and got it correct.

Here is how I approached it:

1) Convert number to unit in questions stem (i.e feet) 5280 * 12 = 63360

2) Convert 1 hour to unit in question stem (i.e. seconds) 60*60 - 3600

3) Divide --> 63360/60*60 * 10 (as we need to find how many feet does she travel in 10 seconds)

Answer: 176 feet

We are given that a skateboarder has a rate of 12 mph. We need to determine how many feet she travels in 10 seconds. Let’s first convert 10 seconds to hours.

Since there are 3,600 seconds in an hour, 10 seconds = 10/3600 = 1/360 hours.

Since rate x time = distance, the skateboarder can travel 12 x 1/360 = 12/360 = 1/30 miles.

Finally, since 1 mile = 5,280 feet, the skateboarder travels 5,280 x 1/30 = 176 feet.

this is great. did you do this in your head or on a calculator?

When working on changing units, it is advisable to do it in a single step with the units to avoid errors:

\(\frac{12 miles}{1 hour} = \frac{12 * 5280 feet}{60 * 60 secs} = 17.6 feet/sec\)

So distance traveled in 10 secs is 176 feet.
