If a > 7, a + 4 > 13, and 2a < 30, which of the following must be true?
(A) 9 < a < 15
(B) 11 < a < 15
(C) 15 < a < 20
(D) 13 < a < 15
The solution suggests to combine the 2nd and 3rd inequality to get 9<a
But if I combine the 1st and 2nd, I can arrive at 2a+4>20 => 8<a
Both approaches lead to very different lower limits for the inequality... Why is this happening? Could it be a bad solution or am I missing something here?

The reason why you're experiencing this math 'issue' is that the first inequality (A > 7) is actually "redundant" to the second inequality (A > 9). There are possible values of A that "fit" the first inequality that do NOT "fit" the second, so when you combined the two inequalities, you end up with a "grand inequality" (A > 8) that isn't completely correct.

Infact you don't have to add anything second gives you a>9 and third gives you a<15.
so the answer is 9<a<15
so the answer is 9<a<15
