To find the perimeter you have to add together all the sides. In this picture the sides include 2x , x, 7, and y. But note you need 2(2x) and 2(x) to add for the length of the top line additionally you need to add (y-7) to account for the far left line. Thus you end up with 4x + 2x + 7 + y + y -7 = 50. Now we just have to solve in terms of x. This simplified down to 25-3x.

\(2x + 7 + x + y + ( 2x + x) + ( y - 7) = 50\)

Or, \(2x + 7 + x + y + 3x + y - 7 = 50\)

Or, \(6x + 2y = 50\)

Or, \(3x + y = 25\)

Or, \(y = 25 - 3x\), Answer must be (D)
