Since this prompt asks for the weight of the meat BEFORE it lost 35% of its weight, and the answer choices are numbers, we can TEST THE ANSWERS.
We're told that the 'after'-weight is 546 pounds, so the 'before'-weight clearly has to be higher than that. Considering the 35% drop in weight, the likely Answer is either C or D, so we'll start with one of those...
Answer D: 840 pounds
10% of 840 = 84 pounds
35% of 840 = 3.5(84) = 294 pounds
840 - 294 = 546 pounds
This is an exact MATCH for what we were told, so this MUST be the answer.
