If Y < X and XM < YM, what must be true?

A. M < X.
B. M < Y.
C. X < 0.
D. M < 0.
E. Y < 0.

We see that when X and Y are multiplied by M, the inequality is switched. That means M must be less than zero.

For example, if X = 2, and Y = -3, and M = -1, we have:

-2 > -3

(2)(-1) < (-3)(-1)

2 < 3

Answer: D

Given: Y < X

Multiply 'M' on both sides: MY < MX, but it is given that MY > MX. This is possible when we multiply (-M) as it will flip the inequality.

Hence, M < 0
