The average (arithmetic mean) for Set A above is 4. If q = w, what is the median of the list?

2 + 11 - 2 + 2x + 1 + 3 = 28

15 + 2x = 28

2x = 13

x = 6.5

{-2 1 2 3 6.5 6.5 11}

We have odd number of elements in the set. Our median is 3.

Nice Question.
Here is my solution to this one -->

Mean=4

Hence q+w=13

q=w => 6.5 each

Hence Median of set -> -2,1,2,3,6.5,6.5,11=> 3

q+w = 13 & q=w => q=w=6.5

{-2,1,2,3,6.5,6.5,11} => Median is 3

We are given that the average of set A is 4. Thus:

(2 + 11 + (-2) + q + w + 1 + 3)/7 = 4

2 + 11 + (-2) + q + w + 1 + 3 = 28

15 + q + w = 28

q + w = 13

Since q and w are equal, both q and w = 6.5.

We now can order set A from least to greatest:

-2, 1, 2, 3, 6.5, 6.5, 11

Thus, the median is 3.

(15+2q)/6>4
15+2q>24, so q >4.5
q=w, so 3 is median
