At Jonah Johnston High School, there are 300 students in the senior class. If all the seniors who take pre-calculus also take physics and 200 seniors are currently taking physics, which is a possible number of seniors taking pre-calculus?

Let's look at the solution to the above question.
Since, all students who take up pre-calculus take up Physics, it is clear that the group of students taking pre-calculus is a subset of the group of students taking up Physics. In simple words, the number of students taking up Pre-Calculus should be less than or equal to the number of students taking up Physics.
Note: There can be some students who only take up Physics and do not take up Pre-Calculus. Hence, the number of students taking Pre-Calculus can also be less than the number of students taking up Physics.
Since 200 students took Physics, on basis of our inference we can say that Number of people taking Pre-calculus should be less than 200. The only number which is less than 200 among the answer choices is 150. Hence, choice E is the correct answer.

Hence total number of seniors:
Not opting for precalculus = 300-x
Not opting for Physics= 100
Opting for physics=200

Try putting the given alternatives:
Only for E)150,the possibility won't be negative for any case.
Hence,Answer choice E should be correct.
