There are a couple of different ways to approach this question, but you might find it fastest to TEST THE ANSWERS.
Although the prompt doesn't explicitly state it, we're meant to assume that a 'child' is anyone age 18 or under. The prompt tells us that 30% of the people are adult males and 40% of the people are adult females... which means that the other 30% of the people are 'children.' We're then told that there are 24 total children. We're asked for the TOTAL number of people.
Since 30% of the total = 24, we can either solve algebraically or find the Answer - that when multiplied by 30% - equals 24. The math is fairly straight-forward either way.
