Harold can complete a question every 1.5 minutes. If there are 41 questions on a test, how long will it take Harold to finish the test?

A. 1 hour 11 minutes
B. 1 hour 1 minutes 30 seconds
C. 1 hour 1 minutes 50 seconds
D. 1 hour 12 minutes
E. 1 hour 12 minutes 15 seconds

Hey,

PFB the official solution. :)

• Time taken to complete one question = \(1.5\) minutes
• Total number of questions in the test = \(41\)
• Hence, total time to complete the test = Time taken per question * total number of questions
\(= 1.5 * 41 = 1.5 * (40 + 1)\)
\(= 60 mins + 1.5 mins =\) 1 hours 1 minutes 30 secs

(please note 1.5 minutes = 1 minute + 0.5 mins = 1 mins + 0.5 * 60 = 1 mins 30 secs)

1 question is completed in 1.5 minutes
2 questions is completed in 3 minutes
40 questions is completed in 60 minutes = 1hr
for 1 left question, he will take 1 minutes 30 seconds additionally
hence 1 hour 1 minute and 30 seconds

A. 1 hour 11 minutes
B. 1 hour 1 minutes 30 seconds
C. 1 hour 1 minutes 50 seconds
D. 1 hour 12 minutes
E. 1 hour 12 minutes 15 seconds

Since each question takes 1.5 minutes, 41 questions will take 41 x 1.5 = 61.5 minutes or 1 hour 1 minute and 30 seconds to complete.

Answer: B

Time taken = 41*1.5

Or, Total time taken = 61.5 minutes...

61.5 minutes = 60 min + 1 minute + 0.50 minutes

Hence, the answer must be (B) 1 hour 1 minutes 30 seconds

41 x 1 minute = 41
41 x 0.5 minute = 20.5

41 + 20.5 = 61.5

1 hour 1 minute and 30 seconds which is answer B

Not the shortest way, but a different method:

1.5 mins = 90 seconds

90 seconds * 41 = 3690

3690/60 = 61.5

61.5, .5 can only be 30 seconds.
