Range= Max value -Min Value
Use number Pick from answer choice.Start from option c. (in option c; x=5 ; range 15-2=13 and 2x=10 thus we need to go for higher value of x) Move to the higher end of option choices. pick option d. x=6.5 (2x=6.5*2=13 satisfied).

Theory: Range = Highest Value - Lowest Value (Once the set is organized in ascending / descending order)

If x was the largest number, then Range = Highest - Lowest value = x - 2 = 2x (given)
=> x = -2 -> which is not possible as we assumed x to be highest number

Lets assume x to be lowest number, then Range = Highest - Lowest value = 15 - x = 2x (given)
=> 3x = 15 => x = 3 -> which is not possible as we assumed x to be smallest number, but if x=3 then 2 becomes the smallest number

Lets assume x is between 2 and 15, then Range = Highest - Lowest value = 15 - 2 = 2x (given)
=> 2x = 13 => x = \(\frac{13}{2}\) = 6.5 -> which is possible as we assumed x to be between 2 and 15

So, Answer will be D

A set of data consists of the terms {2, 8, 13, 15, x}. If the range of the set is 2x, which of the following could be the value of x?

A. -2
B. 3.5
C. 5
D. 6.5

Solution-
Range of the available numbers = 15 - 2 =13;
If we plug in 2x = 13
Then, x = 6.5
If we look into the options, option D looks like a perfect answer choice.
