10% of 360 is how much more than 5% of 360?

(A) 5

(B) 9

(C) 18

(D) 36

(E) 48

10% of 360 is 0.1 x 360 = 36.

5% of 360 is 0.05 x 360 = 18.

So 36 is 18 more than 18.

Alternate solution:

10% of 360 is 5% more than 5% of 360 and that is 0.05 x 360 = 18.

Answer: C

(A) 5

(B) 9

(C) 18

(D) 36

(E) 48

A slightly different approach:

We want to evaluate (10% of 360) - (5% of 360)

(10% of 360) - (5% of 360) = (0.10)(360) - (0.05)(360)
= (360)(0.10) - (360)(0.05) [I just reversed each multiplication]
= (360)(0.10 - 0.05) [I factored out 360]
= (360)(0.05)

Since (360)(0.10) = 36, we know that (360)(0.05) = 18

Answer: C

Brent

solu. Answer is option C as 10%of 360 is 36 and 5% is half of 36 so 18 and is half so 10% is 18 higher than 5%.
