A merchant sells a radio for $80, thereby making a profit of 25% of the cost. What is the ratio of cost to selling price?

(A) 4/5
(B) 3/4
(C) 5/6
(D) 2/3
(E) 3/5

Let CP = 100 & SP = 125

So, ratio of cost to selling price = \(\frac{100}{125} = \frac{4}{5}\), Answer must be (A)

(A) 4/5
(B) 3/4
(C) 5/6
(D) 2/3
(E) 3/5

We can create the following equation:

80 - c = 0.25c

80 = 1.25c

64 = c

The ratio of cost to selling price is 64/80 = 8/10 = 4/5.

Answer: A

Profit = 25% of cost → means Selling Price = 125% of cost
So, Cost : Selling Price=100:125
Simplify ---> 4:5.
