On a recent Sunday, 70% of local residents reported going to the beach, and 30% reported drinking coffee. If all coffee drinkers were also beachgoers, what percent of residents did neither?

A. 0
B. 15
C. 30
D. 40
E. 50

P(Total) = P(Going to beach) + P(Drinking Coffee) - P(Both) + P(Neither)

Assume the total number of people to be 100

\(100 = 70 + 30 - 30 + x\) -> \(100 = 70 + x\) -> \(x = 30\)

Therefore, the percent of residents which did neither is 30(Option C)

We can let the total number of residents = 100.

So 70 go to the beach, 30 drink coffee, and 30 drink coffee and go to the beach; thus:

Total = Beach + Coffee - Both + Neither

100 = 70 + 30 - 30 + neither

30 = neither

Answer: C
