Solution



Given:
• Normally apples cost 40 cents each
• In sale, 3 apples cost a dollar

To find:
• What will be the savings if 30 apples were purchased at sale price?

Approach and Working:
• As the normal price of each apple is 40 cents, the original price of 30 apples = 40 * 30 cents = 1200 cents = $12
• At sale price, 3 apples cost $1
    o Therefore, 30 apples will cost $10

• Hence, the amount of savings = $12 - $10 = $2

Hence, the correct answer is option C.

At regular price, 30 apples cost 30 x 0.40 = 12 dollars.

At the sale price, 30 apples cost 30 x 1/3 = 10 dollars.

So at the sale price, a total of 2 dollars is saved.
