Solution

Given:
    • After completing a speed training, Alyosha translates Russian literature into English at a rate of 10 more than twice as many words per hour as he was able to translate before the training
    • Alyosha was able to translate 10 words per minute previously

To find:
    • The number of words Alyosha can translate now, in an hour

Approach and Working:
If Alyosha could translate 10 words per minute previously, then
    • In 1 hour, he could translate = 10 * 60 = 600 words
    • Presently he can translate = 600 * 2 + 10 = 1200 + 10 = 1210 words

Hence, the correct answer is option D.

Answer: D

After completing a speed training, Alyosha translates Russian literature into English at a rate of 10 more than twice as many words per hour as he was able to translate before the training. If he was previously able to translate 10 words per minute, how many words can he now translate in an hour?

(A) 30
(B) 70
(C) 610
(D) 1,210
(E) 1,800

Originally, he could translate 10 words per minute, which is 60 x 10 = 600 words translated per hour.

After the training, he can now translate 2 x 600 + 10 = 1,210 words per hour.
