In the xy-plane above, the line segment PQ is bisected at right angles by the line y = -x. The line segment QR (not shown) is bisected at right angles by the y - axis. What are the co-ordinates of point R?

A. (5,4)
B. (-4,-5)
C. (4,-5)
D. (-5,-4)
E. (4,5)

Given:
1. In the xy-plane above, the line segment PQ is bisected at right angles by the line y = -x.
2. The line segment QR (not shown) is bisected at right angles by the y - axis.
Asked: What are the co-ordinates of point R?

1. In the xy-plane above, the line segment PQ is bisected at right angles by the line y = -x.
Since Q is the mirror image of P(-5,4) w.r.t.
y=-x; Q=(-4,5)

2. The line segment QR (not shown) is bisected at right angles by the y - axis.
Since R is the mirror image of Q w.r.t x=0
R= (4,5)

Coordinate geometry is still tested. However, I doubt that a question like this would appear on the actual exam.
